Entrevista CTO: Hoje apresentamos o convidado especial co-anfitrião Peter Maragos, CEO, Dash Financial.
Encontrando o Dash:
Outros projetos / iniciativas futuros no Dash?

Se o estoque atingir US $ 295, então eu definitivamente estou puxando o gatilho. Perguntas e comentários do ouvinte:

They should've given several weeks notice, not 1 day. People lost fortunes overnight for reasons not of their own doing. Comment from Scott Somer - NO fun if you were long anything accept deep ITM Options on SVXY or UVXY. Highlights unexpected danger of trading options on leveraged products. TVIX TVIZ. Would have caused disorderly option markets if they did during the trading day. SVXY UVXY Shot across the bow if you are trading options on VolocityShare products as well. Wonder how many of them took people to "The Horse"? Question from Stifl - Great show. Agree with Mark about the OI change graph in LiveVol it's very useful. Only problem is that it only goes back a few months. Any tools out there that go back farther? Comment from DannyBzak - These funds are tracking an index. The index itself was down 96% on 2/5. This is a flaw in index design, not a fund problem. ETP's just can't decide to suddenly not track the index they are mandated to track. Someone needs a better mousetrap to track short vol in index form?.Or a more realistic conclusion is that short vol is not a realistically scalable concept in index/ETP form. IMO short vol is something that is better served by active management, not a passive index. Which is the design flaw of thinking one should make an index designed to replicate a short position on anything. In reality someone who is smart enough to be short is smart enough to manage the risks of being short. These indexes have zero risk management built in.

Comment from Ragin1234 - (RE: SVXY) XIV SVXY uneducated customers are to blame for not doing their due diligence. Volatility Voicemail: Options question of the week.
People are spooked about this market. Hedges are flying left and right. So the question remains: How are you hedging your portfolio right now?
Metals: Gold, Silver, etc. VIX Calls / Volatility Index Puts (SPY, etc.) Bitcoin / Crypto.
Listener questions and comments:
Comment from The Blacklist Blockchain Trader? - The uncorrelated one known as bitcoin Comment from Mark Clyde Brant - Palladium ITM calls! Comment from StockMarket Blue - Hedging strategies are actually unwinding in the bond market, causing turbulence in equities markets. Those "trading" in the stock market are flying blind without understanding the carry trade/currency hedging or oversupply of tender re system luidity. Or the short-VIX unwind. Question from J3dingle - Hi Mark, VXX is delisting in January 2019 (with the new Barclay's ETN VXXB to take its place). What will happen to the Jan 2020 VXX options? Thanks, Joseph Question from Harryhood - @Options Are the $VXX puts premium dropping with the underlying because the VIX futures term structure is backward? Thanks Mark. Just heard "Mr Umbrage" discuss it on the last OB show. I'm the guy who sent you the Vermont umbrage license pic btw.

This week we all were reminded about the value of proper risk management. The great inverse Vol ETP debate continues. Entry is Key. Exit is Everything! TM.
A typical scenario:
Let's say you want to be a millionaire down life's road. not a bad goal eh? Since you are the savvy investor type, you have found yourself a hot, undervalued, stock that you believe is going to be a huge winner in the next couple of years. Looking it over, you check the current price of its shares and they are trading at $85 each. You have $20,000.00 of your hard earned money to invest; and based on the current price, you can afford to purchase 235 shares at face value.
You would love to buy all you can get; however, your current budget is limited, so you consider using margin which would increase your control to about 470 shares. There is a cost to consider when using margin and that's margin interest. Depending on your broker, it can range from 6% to 12% per year. The danger of using margin is that dreaded “ margin call ” should the stock drop in value. The along can devastate your trading capital since you are using 4:1 leverage and depending on your brokers requirements, you could get wiped out in a very short time.
Since you are certain that this stock is going to the moon; and you are ready to hit the buy button with enthusiasm. whoa, wait just a minute my bullish trading friend. There is another option to consider. How would you like to control the stock with a fraction of your capital or even control a lot more of it by purchasing L. E.A. P.S.
What are L. E.A. P.S.? The translation is: Long Term Equity Anticipation Securities.
L. E.A. P.S. are option contracts with long-term expiration dates that can become gold mines if you learnt how to pick them correctly. Typically, L. E.A. P.S. are option contracts that are 1 - 2 years of time before they expire; and they can even go out as far as 3 years into the future. They expire like all other options; however, their expiation date is on the third Saturday of January for each year. They can be both calls or puts and they are a fantastic way to control the stock for as little as 1/3 the current price or you can control more shares for the same cash invested vs. buying the stock out right.
Two things to consider here are:
They are time limited options with a minimum of 6 months to 3 years maximum.
They are subject to depreciation from falling stock prices plus time decay.
Because L. E.A. P.S. are actually options, they suffer from time decay in addition to price swings as the stock moves around. With that out, you might be thinking, why would I want to do that? I'm glad you thought of that, here is the reason. L. E.A. P.S. can actually depreciate slower than a stock which goes down dollar for dollar. L. E.A. P.S. are an option contract, but when you have lots of time, typically 1.5 to 2 years, the price fluctuations tend to move slower when the stock drops. However, if a stock drops dramatically it can effect the LEAP in a more dramatic way due to the implied volatility .
The benefit to LEAPS is you can tie up a lot less money or control more shares of the stock. Also, if the stock splits, your LEAPS split as well!—this is why you want to use them on stocks that tend to split. And here is another benefit of buying LEAPS, you can write covered calls against them and reduce your cost basis to zero over time. But the best reason is LEAPS are options and therefore, they enjoy a larger return when the stock goes up due to the implied volatility all options offer verses just buying and holding the stock.
Session 3 – What to buy.
What strike price should you buy with LEAPS? There is the mystery. Your available cash and risk are the factors. I would recommend if you are looking for cash flow to buy Deep-In-The-Money (ITM) so you can effectively write covered calls against them faster. If you are not to concerned with cash flow and want a maximum return later on then buy (OTM) leaps to control more contracts. Remember that (ATM) is always the most expensive options to buy.
Wait for a stock to come off support before you pull the trigger and confirm that it is definitely in an up trend. If the stock is going to split then wait until it splits and takes it typical post split depression before you jump on LEAPS.
A good rule of thumb on when to sell that LEAP is when the stock is going to announce earnings and it’s a critical decision. You can sell the LEAP then resume if its favorable news or buy it cheaper if the stock dips.
When you get close to the end of the leap (less than 6 months) you will want to exit and move to the next year out if you are still bullish as they are no longer leaps and subject to accelerated time decay.
Here is where things will get interesting with LEAPS. First off you will need to do some study in our section on Covered Calls. Next you will need to understand the volatility issue of a stock and pick one that is not a major mover on news events etc. You should pick a stock with a strong up trend and one that has a consistent pattern to it. See charting for more details on finding these. Now that you have done your due diligence and are ready to enter into this type of trade I would like to give you some of the benefits.
You can build up a major cash flow with these.
You can protect your investment while doing them.
You can increase you returns to infinite with proper management.
You can sleep well at night.
You can build wealth—kind of like owning a Hotel. Ever play monopoly? The one with the hotels raked in the cash when others landed on them. It was only a matter of time until you won the game and so it is with LEAPS.
Are you as excited as I am now? Once I unlock this secret you will be so amazed and the pressure of day trading will evaporate from you. Of course there is no perfect situation and with that said, I must caution you to seek the advice of your professional advisor before you invest in these types of strategies.
Ok, here is the meat of it. It's called a cash-flow cow :-)When you purchase your LEAPS, you are doing this because you are bullish long-term on the stock. The goal is to write short-term calls against you long-term LEAP and reduce your cost basis in the LEAP over time. When you are looking for the correct stock to play you want to keep in mind there should be a strong up-trend in place and the overall market is heading up with it.
Here we go: Buy the LEAP when the stock is on a dip and at known support levels. Por quê? Because the LEAP will be cheaper due to implied volatility. Also, you do not want to be too premature in your assumption the stock is moving higher and get a bad fill which will extend the timeframe for you to use this strategy. Now that you have the leap in place the next step is to wait for the stock to rise in value and reach a known resistance level. Here is where you will sell the call against the LEAP. Por quê? Because the stock is shifting up and the calls are now fatter with premium due (of course) to implied volatility. For a more conservative approach you would sell the call two strikes above the resistance area. If you are watcher of the chart and market you could sell at-the-money calls since these will have the fattest premiums.
Now, when the stock takes a break from the run up you buy back your calls and pocket the difference. Why should I do that? because you do not want to get called out since you do not own the stock you own the LEAP which is an option. It can get too complicated so do not let that happen. Even if you must buy the call back at a loss because you timed it wrong. You still exit the trade. Do not worry about the cost as your LEAP has increased in value many times more than the price of the call. If this is the case be patient and try again. Effectively done this strategy will reduce your cost on the LEAP to zero in about 1 years time. Then your profits are infinite as the LEAP grows. Kick in a couple of splits over the time you hold it and you will feel like you have Hotels on Broadway and Park Place -- cha-ching!
Never hold the call if the stock does not dip within four trading days after you have sold it. Buy it back and wait for a better opportunity.
Do not get greedy and think the call will expire worthless. If you are within 5 trading days of expiration and the stock is close to the strike you sold buy it back. The small amount you invest will be a lot easier than seeing a stock pop up into expiration.
If the stock has taken the expected dip and you sold two strikes above then wait it out and let the call expire worthless.
If the stock has taken the dip and you sold at-the-money then buy it back in the last week.
You should not run into too much trouble with these if you are patient and do not sell the calls on dips. Once you get good at these they can turn into a very lucrative "cash-cow" and generate monthly cash for you every single month.

Ep 609: Did Curiosity Kill the Cat?
Welcome to The Traders Podcast, Episode 609! Today your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the age-old expression, “curiosity killed the cat,” and explore how curiosity can help and hurt you as a trader. At first blush, one might agree with the adage because curiosity can certainly get you into trouble. On the other hand, because cats seem to have nine lives, they tend to do all right. When it comes to trading, though, we have to look more closely.
Traders are excited by new indicators, robots and the hope of finding some new way to become a profitable currency trader. This curiosity is always about making more money, but this is the kind of curiosity that can potentially get you in trouble. However, if you’re searching for a way to reduce your drawdown or reduce your losses, your curiosity surrounding that topic is on point! Rob wants to see more of this kind of curiosity!

Ep 608: The Real Purpose for Simulated Trading.
Following up on the simulation conversation from the previous episode, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles bring you Episode 608 of The Traders Podcast. For this show, we apply our previous musing about simulations to trading.
We talk about backtesting and the misconception that simulated trading isn’t for discovering whether a system is good; simulated trading is for deciding whether you’re good. In other words, are you going to make the right kinds of decisions to be a profitable trader. Join us to learn more!

Ep 607: You’re Living in a Simulation.
If you woke up tomorrow and you had proof that you were living in a simulation, how would that change what you do? It’s an interesting question. Would you care about rules? Would you feel trapped or would you feel liberated? Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 607 today. We’re diving deep into a philosophical question with your host Rob Booker and producer Jason Pyles. Thanks for joining us!
When you think about it, it doesn’t really matter if we’re living in a simulation. Either way, there are consequences to the decisions we make. There are decisions we can make every day as a trader. And, it’s still your choice what you do next.
Rob has met about 10,000 traders by now whom he would recognize and know by name. He knows traders, and he loves traders! The message he would share is this: Wake your mind up. Imagine what the future holds for you if you don’t change your decision-making process. Does your current path lead you to hit rock bottom. Remember, stop when things are going well. Start when the time is right and take a trade size so small that it doesn’t matter if you win or lose.

Ep 606: The Importance of Being Right.
How important is it for you to be right all along? For whatever reason, some traders apparently feel it’s more important to be right than it is to be profitable. Don’t let your need to be right take precedence over your need to find out what’s true.
Many traders suspect that in order to be successful in trading, one must be right from the beginning. But how likely is it that anyone can be 100 percent correct 100 percent of the time? The most realistic scenario is being right eventually. Being right from the beginning is definitely preferable, and it’s a worthy ambition, as long as you remember that you don’t have to be right at the outset. It doesn’t matter how you arrive at profitability, as long as you get there.
In Episode 606 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the importance of being right. We talk about the phenomenon where traders would do fine if they would just allow themselves the pleasure of making money, even though it doesn’t look like a method that anyone else is doing. If they weren’t so worried that what they’re doing isn’t legitimate, then they might just enable themselves to make some money! Join us to learn more!

There is an important distinction between pushing your limits to stretch and grow and simply pursuing the wrong course by “banging your head against a wall” or “trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.” There are pursuits that we can strive to achieve, and then there are ambitions we were never meant to pursue. This episode explores the idea of how maximizing your potential has to do with pushing yourself, yes, but pushing yourself in the right direction!
Episode 605 encourages you to take a self-inventory and to investigate whether there are any areas of trading where you’re “forcing it.” Are you pushing yourself to your limits but also failing — repeatedly? If this is the case, Rob says, then you’re not even close to maximizing your potential at all. Actually, you’re ruining everything.
Where are you most comfortable? Which trading pursuit feels best? Where are you relaxed and at ease? Listen to this episode to learn more!

Ep 604: The Quality to Look for in a Good Trader.
Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 604. This morning your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles go back to the basics of currency trading.
As a teacher Rob knows that you always have something to learn when you get back to the basics. Here are the fundamental skills:
First, look for your support and resistance trend lines.
Second, watch the price action.
Third, study economics.
Beyond that homework, what are the qualities of a student? As Rob is training new traders there is a quality that tells him right away that they are going to be good. That quality is confidence – without arrogance – a little swagger that they know they can get this. They don’t get overwhelmed they just back up. They have a willingness to focus and a willingness to practice whatever it takes.
Remember the classic lyrics, “We’ve only just begun.” Often we get nervous about how much we don’t know. We may fall for the idea that the more you know the better you’ll do. That’s really only true when you study deep, not broad. Focus and stick with us, traders! Thanks for joining us today.

Ep 603: Recency Bias vs. the Portfolio Approach in Trading.
Welcome to The Traders Podcast! This is Episode 603, when your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss “the Portfolio Approach” to currency trading.
Traders are subject to a bizarre recency bias, where they tend to use the most current event or experience as a baseline for predicting what will likely happen in the future. In other words, traders often base their feelings about a certain robot or trading strategy on the outcome of the last trade they took. In Episode 603, Rob suggests that we should instead judge by using, what he calls, “the Portfolio Approach.” Join us to learn more!

Ep 602: Understanding Where You Are Going in Trading.
In our previous episode of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles talked about your necessity as a currency trader to understand where you are. In Episode 602, we discuss the vital nature of understanding where you are going. This sense of direction is part of the equation for Elliott Wave traders, Fibonacci retracement traders, support and resistance traders, and even those rare, “prophetic” traders.
If you want to become a profitable currency trader, then you need to learn how to consistently have those “Babe Ruth moments,” like in the fifth inning of Game 3 of the 1932 World Series in Chicago, where you call your shot and skillfully predict where price is going. Where are you now, and where are you going? How much more do you really need to know? Listen to this episode and find out!
Oh, and don’t forget to check out RobCoin to receive Rob’s free book about day trading the cryptocurrency market! Thanks for listening.

Ep 601: Understanding Where You Are in Trading.
If you want to be a profitable currency trader, you need to understand where you are and where you’re going. It just makes sense. If you want to drive somewhere, you need to first understand your present location before determining which direction you should travel next to arrive at the desired destination. The same goes for trading: Before you can concern yourself with which direction the market is going, you first need to understand where it is at the present moment.
In Episode 601 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles begin this first of a two-part series about Understanding Where You Are in Trading, which will be followed by our next episode, Understanding Where You Are Going in Trading. Junte-se a nós!

Ep 600: Establishing Your Trading Setup and Processes.
Without any fanfare or pomp and circumstance, we bring you Episode 600 of The Traders Podcast, featuring your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles. During this show, Rob and Jason talk about a typical currency trader’s happy tendency to discover his or her preferred setup.
Over time, usually within two to three years, most traders settle into a particular methodology, complete with corresponding preferences and comfort zones. Naturally, one can’t always have the precise setup that one would like, but one can still strive to maintain that consistent traders’ “happy place.” And of course, each trader’s station and methods will be unue to that individual.
If you haven’t established your trading setup and processes that make you comfortable and happy as a trader, then you’re missing out on an enjoyable part of an important process that no one ever talks about. Build a trading space that’s inspiring to you, and you will be inspired while trading! We’d love to see your setup. Send us a picture to 304.281.8332.

Encontrando o Dash:

I wonder how this will affect risk premiums in these products going forward. Comment from John Schryber - Those stocks got sold to cover the inverse leveraged trade. It's all connected. It's been a rocky week for the markets. People are understandably scared and confused. That raises the question: Which product are you most concerned about over the next 30 days? Aka - which product would you not touch with a 10-foot pole?
Listener questions and comments:
Question from Volbug: Mark and friends, now that SVXY has been reset or beaten, would another big VIX surge day have the same impact on it? Obrigado. Comment from Pete Yarbro? - I feel like I have a better understanding of $VIX, $VX and the volatility ETFs than some very high profile stock market commentators, and all I do is listen to a podcast. @Options @OptionPit @OptionVol Comment from Dog Shogun - Vol Views rules Comment from Olivetrader2 - It's amazing what you can learn from podcasts. Listener questions and comments:
Comment from Matt Williamson - Good guesses and discussion. It's much simpler. $5 covered calls trading for $4.30. Again, why? Como? Buy the $5 put and arb for 15% ROI. Certo. I bought some 15s, some 20s, some 5s. Guess no one is concerned about a 97% correction over the next year. Question from J3dingle - Hi Mark, In yesterday's Option Block, you said you personally took an options position in SVXY. I was curious, if you could say, what kind of position a pro takes. Thanks, Joseph Comment from Scott Somer - Another day another day with a very large sell off heading into the start of the Option Block and an up move in the S&P Futures during the "Trading Block" #OptionInsiderRadio #OptionBlock #GreasyMeatball #RockLobster. If we get a Rule 80B Sell off, that will finish off $SVXY unless second month VIX Futures are north of 40. Comment from MrMagoo? - There are no regulators working under Trump. It's a free for all with HFTs eating retailers for lunch.

The Inbox: Listener questions and comments.
Question from BLAL9 - What do you see as the outlook for AI and machine learning in the financial management space going forward? I see a lot of smoke but is there much fire? Are there many funds currently using it to generate alpha right now? Question from Tonc - What are the best ways to invest in blockchain right now? Question from Mark Kalis - How are comps getting the edge on us in trading? Is it just pure correlation trading? Comment from tDok3 - No debate to be had there. It's a simple & foregone conclusion. Higher fees ==> lower participation perhaps goal for CB market manipulation.

Ep 605: How to Know if You’re Pursuing the Right Course in Your Trading.
In Episode 605 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles talk about how to know if you’re pursuing the right course in your trading. We discuss pushing your limits and maximizing your potential. We talk about a human’s ability to “see the light,” to become enlightened and to change.
